Affiliate Marketing and Web 2.0

After celebrating Thanksgiving and while relaxing to some great football games, I had the chance to reflect on 2007. It cannot be denied that this year has been the real homecoming and acceptance of Web 2.0. Social Community websites are everywhere and will not be going away anytime soon. In fact, Affiliate Marketing has embraced the web community concept and many merchants have found it a great way to get exposure and traffic.

So what is in store for us in 2008? Web 2.0 will continue to play a big role in Affiliate Marketing and Affiliates looking to make money online will have a much easier time. Why do I say that Affiliates will benefit? Because, community site are help to build out niches like never before. Like cable TV, merchants will be able to promote their affiliate programs through focused traffic and Affiliates are the best at generating that traffic. The good news about web communities is that marketing can be more specific which is a win win for the Consumer and the Affiliate.

Interent Marketing at the University Level

I had a really interesting conversation this morning with a friend of mine. It started out as a discussion about whether or not having a Microsoft server was better than having a Linux server. Although my friend was trained and certified as a Microsoft Engineer, the hosting company in which he is employed provides clients with more Linux servers than Microsoft. Since working on the Linux servers, my friend is convinced that this is the better way to go. Stability and administration seemed to be the deciding factor. But our conversation quickly turned from server management and reliability to SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Apparently many of the big hosting providers are shifting gears and asking their engineers to become familiar with SEO. The hope is that this knowledge will better serve their clients. For anyone doing business on-line, a properly optimized website can mean the difference between success and failure.

As the discussion got more in depth, my friend started asking me where he can learn about SEO. He searched all the universities in southern California without success. Although he did get some feedback from several of the UC’s that they were thinking of adding Internet Marketing courses to their regular curriculum. Until then, I said to search the internet, join the forums and be a big sponge for all the information he was about to absorb.

More detailed information on this discussion coming in my next post.
